Does solar work on a van or motorhome in Scotland?

Yes. Solar panels work in daylight, not just bright sunshine, so they produce useful power across Scotland for most of the year. Output drops sharply in winter because days are short and the sun is low, which is why most Scottish setups pair panels with alternator charging or mains hook-up.

How much solar power will I get in a Scottish winter?

Much less than in summer. Short days, low sun and frequent cloud mean winter output can be a small fraction of summer output. If you travel or live aboard year-round, plan your battery and charging around winter conditions, and treat solar as a top-up alongside a DC-DC charger or hook-up.

Do I need planning permission for solar on a park home or lodge?

It depends on the property, its location and the site it sits on. Small arrays are often straightforward, but listed buildings, conservation areas and site licence conditions can all affect what is allowed. Check with your park operator first and, where needed, your local planning authority before anything is fitted.

Is VAT charged on solar panels and batteries?

VAT is currently 0% on the installation of solar panels and batteries in homes, until March 2027. Whether it applies to you depends on the property and the installation. Kit bought for a touring van or motorhome is not normally covered. We will confirm what applies before you commit to anything.

Can I get a grant for solar in Scotland?

The Scottish heat pump grant does not cover solar panels or batteries, and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies in England and Wales only. Scottish Government-backed loans may be available for some homes, subject to eligibility. Ask us and we will check what applies to your situation before you decide.

Do you offer finance?

Loans available, subject to status. Spreading the cost can make a fitted system or a larger battery more affordable. We will explain the repayment terms clearly in writing before you agree to anything, and there is never any obligation to take finance just because you have asked us for a quote.

Are your installers MCS certified?

We install through MCS-certified partners. MCS is the UK quality scheme for small-scale renewable installations, and some schemes, such as payments for exported electricity from a home, can depend on it. Your quote will make clear who carries out the work and what certification applies to it.

What size battery do I need?

Add up the watt-hours you use in a typical day: fridge, lights, pumps, laptops and chargers. Then allow for the days you might go without good sun or a drive. Weekend users often need far less than full-timers. Our free quote does this calculation for you, based on your actual appliances.

Should I choose lithium or AGM for Scottish touring?

Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are lighter, give more usable capacity and last longer, which suits regular touring and full-time living. AGM batteries cost less upfront and suit occasional use. Note that many lithium batteries should not be charged below freezing, so ask about low-temperature protection for winter trips.

How long does it take to get a quote?

We reply within 24 hours, and usually much sooner. Tell us what you have, how you use it and what you want to power, and we will come back with a right-sized recommendation in plain English. The quote is free, and there is no pressure and no obligation to go ahead.
